Electrician carrying out domestic electrical work in a home

NE Electrical Contracting Ltd is a small electrical firm based in St Leonards-on-Sea. We are qualified and fully insured, and we do domestic and light commercial electrical work across East Sussex. That means everything from a single socket or a light fitting through to a full rewire, a new consumer unit, or an EICR on a rented property. We work in Hastings, St Leonards, Bexhill on Sea and Battle, and we go out as far as Eastbourne. Hastings is 2.5 miles from our base, Bexhill 3.7 miles and Eastbourne 12.8 miles. Ring 07850 741209 or email ne-electrical@outlook.com and we will get back to you.

Electrical work in the home

Most of our work is in people's houses and flats. Extra sockets, new switches, kitchen and bathroom lighting, outside lights, garden and garage supplies, extractor fans, cooker circuits and shower circuits. We fit new consumer units and change old fuse boxes for modern boards with RCD protection. We also do full and partial rewires on older properties, and we can work room by room if you would rather not empty the house all at once. If something keeps tripping and you cannot work out why, we will find the fault and tell you plainly what it needs. All work is done to BS 7671, the UK wiring standard.

Landlords and commercial premises

Landlords in England must have an EICR done on every rented property at intervals of no more than five years. The report has to go to your tenants within 28 days, and to the council within seven days if they ask for it. Councils can fine up to £30,000 where the rules are broken. We carry out EICRs, go through the codes in the report with you, C1, C2, C3 and FI, and price any remedial work separately. We also take on light commercial work: shops, offices, salons, small units and holiday lets. Lighting, power, fault finding, small works and periodic inspection and testing.

How we work

It starts with a phone call or an email. Tell us what you need and we will either price it over the phone or come out and have a look. For anything bigger than a small job we will visit first, see what is already there, and put the price in writing so you know what you are getting before anyone starts. On the day we turn up when we say we will, keep the mess down and clear up after ourselves. When the job is done you get the certificate that goes with it, whether that is an electrical installation certificate, a minor works certificate or an EICR. Keep it somewhere safe, because it is the proof the work was tested.

The area we cover

We are based at 28 Bodiam Drive in St Leonards-on-Sea, so most of our work is close to home. Hastings is 2.5 miles away, Bexhill on Sea is 3.7 miles and Eastbourne is 12.8 miles. Day to day we cover Hastings, St Leonards, Bexhill and Battle, plus the villages around them, and we take work in Eastbourne as well. Being local counts for more than it sounds. You are not paying for someone to drive across the county, and if anything needs looking at again we are not far away. If you are near one of those towns and not sure whether we come out to you, ring and ask.

Frequently Asked Questions

A: Ring 07850 741209 or email ne-electrical@outlook.com and tell us what you need. Small jobs we can often price over the phone. For anything larger, like a rewire or a new consumer unit, we will come out and look first. The price depends on the size of the property, what is already installed and how easy the cables are to run, so we put the figure in writing rather than guess at it on the phone.

A: Yes. We are qualified electricians and we carry public liability insurance, and we are happy to show you the paperwork before any work starts. NE Electrical Contracting Ltd is a limited company registered in England, number 12066720. Everything we do is wired and tested to BS 7671, and you get the certificate for the job when we finish.

A: Under the Electrical Safety Standards in the Private Rented Sector (England) Regulations 2020, the installation has to be inspected and tested at intervals of no more than five years. You must give a copy of the report to your tenants within 28 days, and to the local authority within seven days if they ask for it. Fines can run to £30,000, so it is not one to let slide.

A: Old boards with rewireable fuses and no RCD protection are the usual reason for a change. If yours has ceramic fuse holders with fuse wire in them, or it trips and will not reset, it is worth having looked at. A modern consumer unit puts RCD or RCBO protection on the circuits, which cuts the power quickly if there is a fault. We will test what you have first and tell you straight whether it needs replacing.
